RTL v. ASC court case: 2005-2011...

As of August 2011, this endless anti-abortion court case has cost the Crown $387,585 in legal representation and court filing fees. And it is set to go on for many more months, if not years: On 26 August, the Supreme Court granted RTL leave to appeal in the case. Teenagers and Abortion

Over at its Issues site, ALRANZ has a (May 2011) blog post on parental notification that offers a round-up of some of the online discussion as well as a look at what some of our elected reps had to say on this issue back in 2004. Book: "Abortion Then & Now"

Dame Margaret Sparrow's book, "Abortion Then & Now" is available from Victoria University Press. Abortion and mental health

The Royal College of Psychiatrists has produced a "systematic review of the mental health impact of induced abortion", and called for submissions. (They closed 29 June 2011.) The American Psychological Association report 13 August 2008 finds one abortion is no threat to mental health. An update of this report published December 2009 concludes most women do not experience mental health problems.


Latest abortion statistics for year ended December 2010

UPDATE: 28 October 2011. Stats NZ issued the stats for the calendar year 2010, which can be downloaded at their Web site. The most recent report from the Abortion Supervisory Committee was issued in December 2010. It does more analysis than Stats NZ, but the ASC report linked to here deals with the figures for the 2009 calendar year. Here's a paper from Statistics NZ on trends in abortion statistics 1980-2007 published January 2010.
