On April 16, 2009, a young Queensland woman, 19-year-old Tegan Leach, was charged in the Cairns Magistrates’ Court with procuring her own abortion, and her partner Sergie Brennan, 21, was charged with attempting to procure and supply drugs to procure an abortion.

Using the 2007 update of a chart originally published by the UN in 1999, there are two changes. Fetal impairment was included as grounds for abortion in Jordan, and removed in Iraq.

Canada's Abortion Law


In Canada, abortion is a health matter, not a criminal offence and it has been this way for the last 21 years. This move, from crime to health, was largely the result of two extraordinary factors: the courage of Dr Henry Morgentaler on the one hand and the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms on the other.
